I think it wasn’t until I actually worked on a project with a deaf girl that I felt my separation disappear (because kids are especially aware of differences-with wonderfully positive and, sometimes, terribly negative results). That’s when we really entered into a “normal” relationship. She was so sharp and clever that I was shocked. I think some part of me felt that I would be naturally smarter and quicker than her. I was only in the third grade and it was one of those lessons that has followed me throughout my life. And, of course, I can’t forget the wonderful teacher who stood back and guided us, Miss Reilly. When I read about your group’s activities, I think of the wonderful teachers I had. And this group has so many teachers and fascinating lessons every week!!
